Guinea pigs love the company of their own kind and need a large, dry habitat with hideouts and enrichment.
They are very social, gentle, and intelligent creatures. Because they are highly social, it’s best to have more than one. In the wild, they live in groups, but even just two pigs form a strong lifelong bond. In some countries (e.g., Switzerland), it is legally forbidden to keep a single guinea pig.

- They are very active—up to 20 hours a day—so they need plenty of space to run and expend energy. Their habitat should never be below 15°C.
- They are not climbers. Ensure they cannot fall from heights; guinea pigs need length, not height, in their habitat.

- They are happiest with the company of their own kind—ideally in pairs (neutered male) or larger groups (neutered male with several females).
