How to Clean, Wash, Dry, and Maintain Your Liner
Cleaning:
First, remove your pet, bowls, toys, and other items. I recommend removing droppings and leftover vegetables daily or at least every other day. You can use a small broom and dustpan, a handheld vacuum, or a brush. The liner can also be rolled up and shaken outside.
If it’s not already wet, you can simply flip it over and use the other side for another day or two before washing. It’s recommended to change the liner every 5 days, depending on the size of your pet’s habitat and how many pets you have.
If your pet is trained to use a “designated potty area”, it’s even easier, and the liner lasts longer. For corners or favorite potty spots, I recommend additional “mini LuLu liners”, which can be changed more often, reducing the need to wash the larger liner.
DonCha also offers “mini LuLu liners.”
Caring for Your Liners:
With proper care, a liner can last over a year—hundreds of washes!
- Do not use fabric softener (it prevents urine from passing through fleece)
- Use gentle detergent
- Wash regularly at 40°C
- Air dry
- Wash once before first use with a gentle program
- The liner may shrink slightly after washing (so I make them about 7 cm larger than the final size)
- Use mini LuLu liners in high-traffic potty areas
Tip: After washing, run a short empty wash cycle with a little vinegar to remove any leftover hair in the drum. For example, I use a 15-minute quick program.
Why Are They Expensive?
The liners are made from two layers of fleece and two layers of high-absorbency bamboo fabric in the middle. Bamboo fabric is also used for human baby diapers, so it’s completely safe. It’s also known for antibacterial properties and odor control.
Of course, quality comes with a price—but if I’m making liners, I wanted something truly durable and high-quality, because our pets deserve it!
Long-term savings: Over time, using a durable liner saves money.
Appearance:
I’m confident that the liners look much nicer and more fun than boring wood shavings—especially when combined with other fleece items like tunnels, cuddle bags, hideouts, etc. Your pet will love it!
DonCha liners are carefully handmade with love, just like all DonCha products. Each one is unique. Suitable for rabbits, ferrets, rats, African pygmy hedgehogs, guinea pigs… even cats and dogs 🙂
