Guinea pigs love the company of their own kind<\/strong> and need a large, dry habitat with hideouts and enrichment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

They are very social, gentle, and intelligent<\/strong> creatures. Because they are highly social, it\u2019s best to have more than one. In the wild, they live in groups, but even just two pigs form a strong lifelong bond<\/strong>. In some countries (e.g., Switzerland), it is legally forbidden to keep a single guinea pig.<\/p>\n

  1. They are very active\u2014up to 20 hours a day<\/strong>\u2014so they need plenty of space to run and expend energy. Their habitat should never be below 15\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. They are not climbers. Ensure they cannot fall from heights; guinea pigs need length, not height<\/strong>, in their habitat.<\/li>\n
  3. Hay must always be available<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
