Guinea pigs are not low-maintenance pets, even though they are small and may seem easy to care for. In reality, they require a lot of care and attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regular cage cleaning. Their living space needs to be cleaned regularly, as they can poop up to 100 times in just 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proper diet. They need a balanced diet that includes high-quality pellets, vegetables rich in vitamin C, and hay, which must be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An appropriately sized cage and exercise. They need a sufficiently large living space and regular exercise outside their cage. If you can provide them with SAFE outdoor access to grass during a suitable time of year, even better!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Companionship of their own kind. Guinea pigs are social animals and need companionship. A guinea pig should never be kept alone \u2013 it needs at least one other guinea pig as a companion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most guinea pigs do well when living together in the same enclosure. In some cases, especially with males, however, keeping them in separate but neighbouring enclosures may work better, allowing them to see and smell each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A veterinarian experienced with guinea pigs. Guinea pigs need a veterinarian with the appropriate knowledge and experience in their care. Not every vet has sufficient experience with them, as they are classified as exotic pets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guinea pigs are not beginner pets, and they are not toys. They are sentient beings that need time, space, proper care, companionship, and veterinary attention whenever necessary. The decision to care for them should therefore always be a well-considered one.<\/p>\n\n\n
