The DonChina shelf is easy to install on the cage wall (mesh).

This is the second version of the shelves, with a back edge that acts as a guard for droppings. It’s an additional piece of wood that extends above the edge and prevents droppings from rolling out of the cage. This extra piece will save you a lot of time when cleaning after your pet.

Of course, you can combine these with DonChina shelves without the edge.

Please read! Shelves are attached to the “wall” of the cage. They are an important part of your pet’s setup, and every cage should have a few shelves. Chinchillas love to jump between them. They should be spaced far enough apart to allow safe jumping, but not too far, as your chinchilla could get injured when jumping from one to another.

In addition to providing exercise, shelves also offer a resting place. This is especially important if your cage has a mesh floor, which can hurt your pet’s feet.

By adding shelves, you also increase the usable space of the cage, since cages for animals like chinchillas are usually taller to allow climbing. Shelves help you make use of the extra vertical space.
